Season 2 - General

La Grave trip cancelled Posted by Len at 4 Apr 2007 07:09 AM
I was supposed to have driven out to Morzine yesterday to ski with Phil for a couple of days before our La Grave off-piste weekend. Unfortunately I've come down with gastric flu or something and can barely get out of...

Game over Posted by Len at 10 Mar 2007 08:44 AM
Well, that's it for Jackson Hole. I'm heading home today. One more ski trip planned for Easter in La Grave and then that's it for the season....

Day off Posted by Len at 3 Mar 2007 08:29 PM
Had a day off today. Gaelle's flight home was early afternoon :( so we had a late breakfast at Bubba's and then her AllTrans taxi took her off to the airport :( . I sorted out some paperwork and filled...

Boot fitting Posted by Len at 24 Feb 2007 07:16 PM
Gaelle arrived late last night and today's my day off so we lazed around today and headed up to the mountain late in the afternoon to hire some skis for her and get my footbeds made. The guy a Wildernest...

New Toy... Posted by Len at 22 Feb 2007 08:59 PM
Last night whilst browsing the Jackson Hole website I noticed a link from their trail map page to a site offering GPS maps of the resort......

OK, so Delta ate my ski boots Posted by Len at 21 Feb 2007 09:40 PM
It's been six days since Delta or United or Denver International Airport or Salt Lake City Airport or someone, lost my ski boot bag. Each day I call the delayed bag tracking line I get a different person who seems...

This may sound strange, but... Posted by Len at 20 Feb 2007 08:45 PM
I haven't found anything really steep yet. Sure things like Tower Three Chute and the Expert Chutes and Paint Brush are steep but they're not "oh my god, help, I can't do this" steep. The last time I had that...

Welcome to the land of the shovel handle Posted by Len at 19 Feb 2007 09:30 PM
I'm starting to think that Jackson Hole is a bit of a caricature of a ski resort, in much the same way that Chamonix can be... Rather than expecting everyone to have an ice axe strapped to their rucksack as...

Jackson Hole info Posted by Len at 17 Feb 2007 08:08 AM
One thing I realised from yesterday's skiing here was that the area is all that it's hyped up to be. We barely scratched the surface yesterday but everywhere you look there are steep shutes, tree runs, bumps and jumps and...

London -> Jackson Hole Posted by Len at 15 Feb 2007 08:09 AM
I left London at 7am yesterday morning and finally arrived here in Jackson at around 1am local time, around 8am London time. It was a long day but it went reasonably well and I managed to sleep on all three...

Morzine -> London Posted by Len at 30 Jan 2007 10:29 PM
We drove back from Morzine to London today. The journey was fast and uneventful and, thankfully, it wasn't tipping down with snow when we left the French alps; I'm sure it will come, I'm just glad it didn't arrive just...

Klosters -> Morzine Posted by Len at 27 Jan 2007 08:13 PM
We left Klosters around mid morning and the snow was dumping down, so much so that the road out was slow going... We later found out that the reason the road was SO slow was that there was some idiot...

Relax and catch up Posted by Len at 20 Jan 2007 06:49 PM
Another day off! We chilled out around Klosters, did some hunting for some off-piste skis for Gaelle to hire next week. I caught up with some internet stuff, email, a little work (!) and Gaelle went for a sauna at...

Day off, walk to Davos Wolfgang Posted by Len at 13 Jan 2007 07:14 PM
Today was Gaelle's day off. No repping. We decided not to ski, even though it was a glorious day, rest the legs and all that. Instead we walked from Klosters to Davos Wolfgang along a wonderful (if somewhat hard!) route...

Now in Klosters Posted by Len at 6 Jan 2007 04:03 PM
We're now in Klosters for Gaelle's 3 week Ski Club of Great Britain repping stint. We've unpacked in the rep's accommodation, a rather nice studio apartment near to the Cresta Hotel, and Gaelle has begun the pre ski leading work,...

Recovery... Posted by Len at 31 Dec 2006 06:54 PM
We slept a lot of today. We'd decided not to ski today as we'd need to recover from the trip. As it was we ended up getting up for lunch around 2ish and then drove to Klosters so that Gaelle...

No Wifi in Davos... Posted by Len at 30 Dec 2006 11:51 PM
The Hotel National in Davos, whilst wonderful, doesn't seem to have WIFI. So... It may be a while before I update the blog......

London -> Davos Posted by Len at 30 Dec 2006 11:49 PM
The journey out was good. It took around two or three hours longer than the drive to Morzine but we stopped more and most of France was wet and rainy which made the journey a little slower. Things got interesting...

Morzine -> London Posted by Len at 27 Dec 2006 10:19 PM
Today I drove back from Morzine to London. I'm here for a couple of days before we head off to Davos for new year. The drive back was smooth and trouble free, the car purchase was definitely the correct decision......

Christmas day ski, or not Posted by Len at 25 Dec 2006 06:39 PM
The plan today was to get up early so that we got some good skiing in the morning and then went for lunch by the lake. Unfortunately when we got to the Ardent lift it wasn't running... There was not...

Day off! Posted by Len at 21 Dec 2006 06:26 PM
The plan was to ski in the afternoon today, instead I didn't ski at all, it was nice to just potter around, service my skis, build a larger table top for the 7 of us that will be here for...

From Tignes to Megeve to Morzine Posted by Len at 15 Dec 2006 06:47 PM
This morning I shoved all my stuff back in the car and left Tignes after my five weeks here and drove to my next destination, Morzine. I popped in on Lucy in Megeve and the snow situation there is pretty...

Weather as forecast... Posted by Len at 21 Nov 2006 06:34 PM
Today we had some snow in the morning, not a great deal, a couple of inches, perhaps, at the top and far less down in Le Lac. It cleared up around 11 ish and then the weather closed in again...

110kph winds... Posted by Len at 17 Nov 2006 04:26 PM
When we got to the base this morning the sign read that there were 110kph winds at the top and that everything was closed, next news at 9am... When the update came it wasn't good, the ski area would be...

MP3 surgery required Posted by Len at 14 Nov 2006 10:19 AM
One of the nice toys in my new car is a built in MP3 player with two SD card slots behind the sat-nav screen... Plug in a couple of cards and away you go... Part of the prep for the...

De-rail during de-ice... Posted by Len at 14 Nov 2006 09:58 AM
Well... This morning things were better than yesterday; the wind was low enough for them to be able to move the gondola so that they could de-ice the cables... We sat in a different cafe waiting for the 9am update......

Ice on the cables Posted by Len at 13 Nov 2006 11:28 AM
This morning we had high hopes. The weather was pretty clear, there didn't appear to be a great deal of wind up top. It was colder than yesterday, around -8 at the base but the sun was shining. We sat...

Wind hold Posted by Len at 12 Nov 2006 12:17 PM
Well, we were supposed to be training on the glacier today but the lifts are on hold due to wind. We were all up and ready nice and early and then sat in a cafe waiting for news. There are...

New Skis Posted by Len at 12 Nov 2006 11:27 AM
I picked up some new skis when I was in St. Gervais with Lucy. Since I'm doing slalom training and since I may, one day, want to do the "test technique" I thought I'd get "proper" race skis. So now...

Back in France Posted by Len at 11 Nov 2006 06:06 PM
Well, I'm back in France and it's been quite a hectic few weeks getting here. I had to buy a car (Audi A4 Quattro Avant 3.0 TDI) pack it, sort out all the other stuff and finaly got on the...
