Ski Club Rep's Course: Day 9

Today was our second day of leading. The premise was that the day was an advanced off-piste day. Patrick arrived as a member, a complete member... The idea being that whoever was doing the sign up should check that he was able for the day and that the had everything with him that he needed. We felt the role play was a little over the top, during the first run warm up he snowploughed like a maniac (very convincingly) to see what we would do if there was someone below standard with us; we passed with flying colours by suggesting we take him back to base and that he skied with us on another, more appropriate day... Unfortunately we then assumed that he was continuing to role play a problem member and were over cautious for the rest of the morning.

At lunch we discussed this and Patrick pointed out that he had stopped role playing after the snow plough incident and that we should have realised; we hadn't.

The afternoon went better, we all got more relaxed and skied him harder. We found some nice fresh powder and generally had a good time.

The day was hard work, mostly due to the misunderstandings in the morning. The afternoon was good and overall we did OK...
