We spent all of today working on technique. Lots of drills to get us skiing better. It's amazing how difficult it is to do a basic parallel turn perfectly at slow speed... Once again the day was hard work but this time it was less frantic, it was fun though.
The early days on snow are designed to encourage us to find our balance and get used to skiing all kinds of stuff, they're certainly doing that. The fast off piste in poor visibility and the trees have all helped me to ski without needing to think about how I'm doing it; Nike skiing, just do it... The drills today were more formalised training and we have much more of that to come.
Later tonight we start on the classroom part of our mountain safety course and then tomorrow we're off to do the on snow part. We'll be allowed to wear rucksacks tomorrow for the first time since our first free skiing day. Apperantly we're not allowed to wear them for the BASI assessment days and so we're encouraged to ski without a pack for most of the training. I haven't skied without a pack for around 6 years, it was a little strange to start with but now I like it, it's nice to be able to actually sit back and relax on a chair lift and I seem to be able to fit most of the gear I really need in my pockets.
