Training day 1

The day started at 7am with a run followed by a stretching session, then breakfast and then on the minibus to the snow by 8.15. We collected our gear from the ski store at the base of the mountain and then caught the first lifts up. A couple of runs free skiing to warm up and then some more stretches and then we were off...

Today we skied harder and faster than yesterday. If you'd asked me yesterday if that were possible I'd have said no... We did similar kinds of things to yesterday; lots of fast carving, steeps, off piste, bumps and controlled speed short turns on variable pitches. The snow conditions are pretty good and we skied some nice off piste and a lovely couloir in the afternoon. We did manage to find some really nasty off piste stuff lower down early in the morning where there had been some freeze/thaw action and the result was like blocks of concrete.

So far we seem to be skiing a lot, being watched a lot and being given the occasional drill or tips to improve what we're doing. The skiing is varied, one minute we're doing carved turns the next we're off piste, then in the bumps, then back on the piste. It's interesting to see how long it sometimes takes to mentally adjust to the changes; need to work on that...

After the ski day finished at 15.30 (and we were all more than happy to stop even though it might seem like an early finish to anyone who isn't skiing with us!) we headed back to the hotel, did some stretches, had some food and coffee and then it was into our first spanish lesson... In summary, I should have listened to the cds I had! Still, it's fun. Now we have almost 2hrs of free time and then it's time for dinner...
