Climbing at The Castle

Today I did day 2 of a 4 day beginners climbing course at The Castle in Stoke Newington. I couldn't make day 1 but they kindly laid on a 1hr catch up session with a one-on-one instructor at no extra charge. The Castle is a wonderful, old, water pumping station that does, indeed, look like a castle. The beginners course consists of six per instructor and today we worked on low effort techniques (i.e. don't use your arms to pull you up, use your legs! and keep your centre of gravity in and over your foot holds).

The 2hr session was hard work. The fact that I'd already done an extra hour of one-on-one probably made it harder. It was damn good fun though and just the right kind of fear...

The balance and flexibility of it should be useful for skiing, perhaps, even if it isn't, it's certainly a fun, summer, activity. Recommended!

I expect that my fingers, arms and shoulders will ache a tad tomorrow!
