Bumps on Alpette, Megève 2006

In the continuing theme of video self analysis here's some footage of me in the bumps to skiiers right coming down beside the new high speed 6 seater chair that runs up to Alpette.

About the only things I'm pleased with are my upper body management and my feet. I break at the waist a little just before I break for the piste to regain some control but apart from that I'm pretty solid; much more so than the floppy rag doll that I used to be. I manage to stay over my skis the whole time. It may not show and if it does it may not look like much, but I didn't end up in the "back seat" at all through the whole run which is good.

Now for the bad things. My arms are too floppy and the fact that I allow the pole plants to pull my arms back is bad. Arms need to be more forward and I need to flick with the wrists more and keep the arm stable. I completely failed to take control of the bumps; they dictated my line from the start. I should have picked a line and stuck with it not gone where the bumps sent me. I did reasonably well at keeping a line that took the fall line but it could have been much better; and these were easy bumps, the pitch was OK and the troughs weren't that deep (nothing like skiing the bumps on Gunbarrel at Heavenly in Tahoe). The lack of control that's seen near the end (just prior to where I scoot off onto the piste to lose some speed) is mainly due to my legs giving out and the resulting lack of pressure meaning that I wasn't controlling my speed. Still, it's usually because I'm back, so I can't be too harsh...

In summary, better than before but still a long way to go. Must try harder.

A normal link in case the active movie thing above doesn't work.
