Rain, Beer and the second issue of Powder this year

There's a pattern developing here... This weekend we spent a drizzly Saturday evening sitting in the New Rose on Essex Road reading the latest ski mags. The second issue of Powder is out and it's as good as the first.

The New Rose was a pretty pleasant pub. Lots of dark wood and exposed brickwork gave it the right feeling for a drizzly night in October. The Hoegaarden was good, the bar snacks were good and it was busy enough to have a vibe but no so heaving that you had to shout to be heard. Comfy chairs, a peat burning fire and a decent juke box playing a nice mixture of classic rock and modern tunes.

This month the magazine has some reviews of touring gear packages. Skis, boots and bindings put together to provide all you need for randonee trips. There's something for everyone; from the gnarly freeride Black Diamond Verdict's with the rock solid, Fritschi Freeride bindings to the ultra light weight Ski Trab Duo Race Aero and Dynafit TLT Titan race bindings (only 500grams per pair!).

The rest of the mag is the usual collection of short pieces of cool, laid back prose and excellent pictures. There's something about Powder that makes you have to read it as if Warren Miller were narrating it... It's quite obvious that it's a lifestyle that they're selling, but I'm definitely in the market for it.
