We skied Les Contamines today and the conditions there are getting worse. The snow from the last dump has pretty much gone and what's left is slushy and sticky as would be expected for warm days in April at the end of the season. It started snowing a little in the afternoon but there wasn't much snow and it was wet, which didn't really do much to improve the conditions.
We skied down the Hauteluce side for the first time this season and the snow was pretty good on the Marmottes red run and fairly crap below that level. We also skied the Aiguille red down from the high point of Les Contamines, Aiguille Croche at 2487m, unfortunately this was suffering from a fairly frozen and chunky surface so wasn't at its best. The other runs down from the Tierces chair were also suffering from a mix of being too frozen or too soft and slow, though they did get better when the wind temperature dropped and the snow cooled a little mid morning. The sweet spot when there's nothing to complain about is getting smaller and smaller and, I think, we're getting very fussy now ;)
Pat had another good lesson and to prove it here are some pictures.
