Fresh snow in Les Saisies

There was at least 15cm of fresh snow on the ground when we reached Les Saisies this morning. The snow that was coming down was quite wet, but there was quite a lot of it and the new snow on the ground was actually reasonably light; certainly a lot better than slush or ice.

We took the Bisanne chair and started on the run down the front, under the chair. The blue was very slow due to the fresh snow so I cut left and dropped down the red next to the slalom course. Unfortunately the other guys didn't see me do that, visibility was pretty poor, and they went down the red under the chair instead.

Since the visibility was so poor we decided to give the L'Eterlou red run by the Chamois drag lift a go. The run had some trees by the side so I figured that the vis might be a bit better there. It was.

There were one or two tracks down the new snow and apart from that it was a blank canvas. We spent a while skiing on this red and the Le Chamois red next to it, making our own tracks and falling a little; some more than others.

When we'd used up all the space for new tracks on these two our legs were a little tired so we stopped for a drink and something to eat at the restaurant at the top. After that we skied down the Les Chevreuils red (cutting across the drag before the bottom this time to minimise the walking). The snow just off of the piste near the trees was great, pretty much untouched and deeper than the pisted stuff due to the refreshing nature of the new snow on the old base.

We decided to head over to the other side in search of better visibility. We took the Chard du Beurre chair up and skied down the Les Sangliers red, the visibility was pretty good, partly due to the trees either side and partly due to a break in the clouds. The snow was good but it had been skied pretty well so was quite choppy, which made it fun in a different way. We skied Les Sangliers twice and then dropped down to Les Coqs drag and skied Les Girolles a few times. Once again the vis was good due to the trees and the snow was excellent. We had hoped to ski down the Les Perdux black but it was closed, probably due to the fact that it was mostly brown last time we saw it and even though there was lots of snow on it now there was probably no base.

All in all we had an excellent day in great conditions. Snow's back!
