Photos from the last few weeks

This is the view of Mont Blanc from the Col Des Aravis red run down from the Christomet chair on the Jaillet side on 13th March. As you can see from this picture, the banner at the top of the site is also a similar view of Mont Blanc but that one was taken last year from the deck outside the Igloo at the top of Mont D'arbois.

This is the off-piste section on Cote 2000 that we skied with Lucy on 15th March. The first route that we all took was from just below the top of the chairlift at the right of the picture to somewhere near the hut in the centre; we kept right. The second route, which I skied poorly, was more towards the centre and left of the picture, cutting away from the lift slightly higher up.

On the same day as the off-piste stuff at Cote 2000 we saw the first signs that the ridge beyond Cote 2000 was starting to shed its snow. The brown patches above were where small avalanches took all of the snow off and left the grass visible; the grass up there is long and the face is steep and the snow slides early as it warms up. The second picture shows a fall of snow pouring down one of the gulleys from the ridge. This was happening all day whilst we were there, but don't worry we weren't anywhere near where any of that stuff landed, it's well away from even the accessible off-piste at Cote 2000.

Michelle skiing with Lucy later that same day; Mark and Michelle being here has made my reporting of events more complex due to the fact that we had two Michelles here but in all instances Michelle was Mark's Michelle and Miche was mine - now wait for the 'I don't belong to anyone complaints' from the ladies...

This is Mark in the car park after that first day's skiing, thankfully, I think, you can't see that he's actually steaming. He had a few too many layers on and it was a bit of a warm day...
