Telemark 2

Miche and I had decided to take another day on the telemark skis as we figured that we could still guide Mark around OK even though we would be slower than normal. Michelle's knee was hurting today so she stayed in bed and Mark took her lesson and we skied on our telemarks alone until 11ish; this was kinda lucky for us as it took a little while to get back into it.

We met up with Mark after his lesson and did some runs down by the Ideal chair with him. The telemarking seems to be coming on, slowly. I managed to string more and more turns together and began to make the turns shorter; I expect my legs will ache tomorrow. Today I was focusing on trying to find the balance point for the forward ski; my weight is too far back, probably because I'm wary of flexing the ankle and moving my weight forward because I'm scared that I will lift my heel and go over the front. Slowly but surely I'm finding my feet on these skis, though I can't for the life of me seem to edge them properly yet. Miche was also doing well, once she got back into it.

We skied until lunch time by which time the snow was getting soft and we'd all had enough.

We've started to dip into a book I picked up before we came away; Allen & Mike's Really Cool Telemark Tips. It's amusing, has useful cartoon diagrams and seems like it could be helpful... So much to remember, but at least the general idea isn't that different to normal alpine skiing.
