A little powder

The car park looked to have around 15-20cms this morning, it was hard to tell as the snow plough was at work when we left for first lifts at 9.00. Helena decided to stay in bed. The visibility this morning was pretty crap as the cloud was low and it was still snowing, plus her hip hurt and she decided to have a lazy last day. Brian, Miche and I caught the first cable car up to the top of Rochebrune with only 3 other people in it; this is how Megève is supposed to be...

We headed straight over to Fontaine and hooned down in the fresh powder. From the looks of it they'd bashed around half of the fresh stuff, the rest having arrived after they'd finished. We had around 10-15cms of powder in the piste, just enough to give a little floatation for some ego snow powder turns. Miche was hollering as she skied down and said at the bottom that the run had been the best she'd had since the start of the season... We were early enough to be laying fresh tracks for the first couple of runs down Fontaine and then the rest arrived... It was pretty deserted but the snow got tracked out pretty quickly. We skied on and around Fontaine for a while and then headed to Alpette for a coffee.

We've decided that Alpette is the most expensive place to drink on the mountain. The food is comparatively priced but the drinks seem way more expensive that elsewhere; anyway, needs must. After the break we skied down under the Alpette chair and then dropped down towards the Super Megève black which was nice and fluffy. The bumps to one side were nice and soft with a fresh layer of snow, the bits between the pistes were nice and refreshed by the new snow.

Finally we did a run down the blue between the trees under Caboche, nice snow, not many people. Miche sat the next run out as her legs were shot and Brian and I did one last run down from the top and along the "Mouillebiau" section of the red under Caboche. The snow off to the right where the baby trees live was deep and fluffy enough that you could hardly see the baby trees at all. Brian went to meet up with Miche and head home and I dropped off of the left hand side of Olympique and finished the day in what seemed to be almost knee deep powder - though I've no idea how that happened given we hadn't had that much fresh, I guess the new stuff we had refreshed the stuff we already had. The steep section was completely untracked and I skied it well.

At that point it was around one o'clock and we called it a day and met Helena for pizza in town.

Once again I noticed that my balance and ability to recover from mistakes was better than it used to be; I think I skied this powder better than any I've skied this season (and hence, before). More significant snow due tomorrow and then less snow most days next week.
