It rained all day

It's still raining now. It was raining at 7.30am and hasn't stopped once all day. It's not just drizzle either, it's proper, heavy, soak you through and flood things rain. If it had been a little colder a little lower down it would have been lovely snow but...

We stayed in most of the day. The owners of the apartment needed to visit this weekend to fix a couple of things so we arranged it for today and then stayed in with books and tea and watched the rain from inside, mostly. I decided that the car park was going to get pretty nasty if the 3 or 4 inches of collected rain froze over night so I went out with my avalanche shovel and tested it on ice by hacking a channel through the ice wall that the digger that did the snow clearance had created along the edge of the car park where the water should drain... The water went away, the shovel was man enough but I think it would have been quicker to use an ice axe or a pick axe...

We popped up to Lucy's place to configure her broadband access. The ADSL problem was due to the line not being connected - this was 'by design' according to France Telecom, they always instal the gear and then don't connect for 3 weeks and they never tell you about it up front... Last time I was there I noticed that the whole setup that they supply is nicely locked down from a security point of view but that Lucy's set up (WIFI in a luxury ski chalet in Megeve) means that ideally she doesn't want MAC address lock down because that would be a pain when her clients want to connect. I disabled that and left the WEP in place so that she can give out the WEP key to clients and, hopefully, reduce drive-by usage...

Whilst we were there Miche got some info on Praz sur Arly and we plan to head over there on Monday in an attempt to avoid the French half-term crowds in Megève. The Praz area looks quite good and almost as big as the new connected Jaillet area. It's only a 10-15 min drive so it would be rude not to...

On the way home we gave in to Pizza lust and popped into town to La Patio for Pizza; we've been there a couple of times now, hopefully Miche will do one of her reviews of the place later on.

The day actually turned out to be rather relaxing in a rainy Saturday kind of way. It's probably the first day off that we have had where we haven't had to rush around and do other things...

Snow reports suggest good precipitation from now on for a good few days...
