Powder day

We got up early and did the obligatory tape measure thing... The clear skies hadn't arrived so we skied in snow clouds and snow... We got the 2nd lift out of Rochebrune rather than first and it was crammed; so much so that Miche was pressed into a strange position and her legs ached by the time we reached the top...

I'd decided that I wasn't up for the wide open off piste of Mont Joly with fresh powder on it; my technique, if it could be called that, can just about manage a mild "powder 8" wiggle on the exactly the right slope; in general I'm pants in powder, but that's why we're here, to learn these things... We stayed over on Rochebrune, I figured that Fountaine would have enough unbashed stuff around the pisted run to keep us both happy for the first powder of the season.

Miche's day started bad, and got worse. It didn't help that after a couple of runs we discovered that her bindings were set wrong; the toe of her boot could move about 10mm sideways if she tried. We got that adjusted but she'd already strained her legs in the choppy stuff. I put some time in on the powder but I didn't fall, so I probably wasn't trying hard enough.

We lunched at Super Megève, put some more turns in and then headed home. I'd had a pretty good day, Miche hadn't but the whole thing about being here for four months is that sometimes I'll be good and sometimes it wont be but it doesn't really matter because we'll be here tomorrow anyway and perhaps that'll be better [end Warren Miller voice over...]
