In the end I came to the conclusion that the Tracker DTS would probably be more useful to us to start with, we'll be beginners, it's supposed to be the best device for beginners... If the time comes when we decide that we'd be better off with an analogue device then we can get one; if that time ever comes we'll know more about what we need and why we need it... Ideally this device will be something that we only ever practice with and wear rather than something that we use for real...
We bought our Tracker's from www.lockwoods.com and went for the "Stash set", all in one package of shovel, probe, transceiver and rucksack - the price was good (better because we are members of The Ski Club) and they let me upgrade the pack to the bigger 30L model - which was handy...
